Bjørn Sortland

Bjørn Sortland (b. 1968) is an accomplished Norwegian fiction writer and Professor of Creative Writing, known for his books aimed at children and young adults. His books have been published in 28 countries. He holds a degree in social work and studied at the Writing Academy in Hordaland, Norway. He has been a full-time writer since 1998 and currently resides in Bergen.

Sortland has written 68 books to date and his body of work includes children's and young adult books, novels, picture books, and suspense novels, and he has received numerous Norwegian and international literary awards. His writing often deals with the strange and complex aspects of the children's universe, infused with warmth, humour, and a sensitivity to the difficulties of growing up, including issues of love, identity, and pain. Sortland has also studied art in various forms and has co-written the Kepler62 suspense novel series with Finnish children's author Timo Parvela, with illustrations by Pasi Pitkänen of Angry Birds fame.
